Understanding and Customizing Your Event URLs

The web address (URL) for your event plays an important role in your event marketing and branding. This guide explains how Blackbird RSVP handles event URLs and your options for customization.

Standard Blackbird URLs

All events hosted on Blackbird RSVP receive a standard URL in this format:

events.blackbirdrsvp.com/name-of-event

The portion after the forward slash (/) is customizable when you publish your event. This means you can create a URL that is:

  • Memorable

  • Descriptive

  • On-brand

  • Easy to share

Customizing Your Event URL

When publishing your event, you'll have the opportunity to customize the URL:

  1. Navigate to the "Publish" section of your event dashboard

  2. Look for the URL customization field

  3. Enter your preferred text (e.g., "annual-gala-2025" or "summer-workshop")

  4. The system will automatically convert spaces to hyphens and remove special characters

  5. Click "Publish" to finalize your event with the custom URL

URL Best Practices

For the most effective event URLs, consider these tips:

  • Keep it concise: Shorter URLs are easier to remember and share

  • Make it descriptive: Include the event name or type for clarity

  • Avoid special characters: Stick to letters, numbers, and hyphens

  • Consider searchability: Include key terms people might search for

  • Check for typos: URLs cannot be changed after publication

Using Your Own Domain

If you want a fully branded URL (like myevent.com or gala.myorganization.com), you have options:

Domain Forwarding

You can purchase a custom domain from any domain provider and set up forwarding to your Blackbird RSVP event URL:

  1. Purchase your desired domain from a provider like GoDaddy, Namecheap, or Google Domains

  2. Set up URL forwarding (sometimes called "redirect" or "domain forwarding") in your domain provider's dashboard

  3. Enter your Blackbird event URL as the destination

  4. Configure the forwarding to be masked/cloaked if you want your custom domain to remain in the address bar

Domain Provider Tutorials

Different domain providers have slightly different processes for setting up forwarding:

Important Notes About URLs

  • Default permanence: While URLs are designed to be permanent after publication, we understand mistakes happen

  • Requesting URL changes: If you need to change a published event's URL, please email us at [email protected] with your request

  • Uniqueness: Each event URL must be unique within the Blackbird RSVP system

  • Availability: If your preferred URL is already in use, you'll need to choose an alternative

  • Case sensitivity: URLs are not case-sensitive (e.g., "Summer-Gala" and "summer-gala" lead to the same page)
